Bruce Marchiano

CWVFF Speaker2018

Bruce Marchiano is an actor, producer/director, author, and ministry director best known for his portrayal of Jesus in The Visual Bible; The Gospel of Matthew and in the Pure Flix hit, The Encounter.

A 25-year veteran of the Christian film industry, Marchiano began his career in the 80’s with guest roles on classic television shows such as Murder She Wrote, Colombo, L.A. Law and Days of Our Lives to name just a few. In 1989 Marchiano came to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Almost immediately his career hit a drought that lasted several years. Little did Bruce realize the Lord was preparing him for the film that would alter his life’s direction.

In 1992 Bruce was cast to portray Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew, and as he likes to say, “The rest is history.” Matthew is regarded as one of the most landmark Jesus films of all time, and has inspired countless lives to come to Jesus. According to International Bible Society distribution in China alone is in the multiplied millions. As Matthew gained international acclaim, doors exploded open for Bruce in Christian films, speaking, writing and ministry. Following the counsel of his mentors, Dr. Jack Hayford and Disney icon, Dean Jones, Bruce rested his secular dreams and turned toward these kingdom pursuits which he continues in today.

Beyond Matthew, Marchiano’s many Christian and Biblical movies are too numerous to list. Topping them is the Pure Flix classic, The Encounter. Other titles include Encounter II, Out of Jerusalem, Acts of the Apostles, This is Our Time, Road to Emmaus, The Last Supper, Revelation Road, Come Follow Me, For Love’s Sake, My Son My Savior... to name but a few. Currently Marchiano stars in the Pure Flix spin-off series, The Encounter, and soon to be released, the UK film, Grace & Gravity, on which Bruce also served as co-writer. Point of trivia, Marchiano holds the distinction of portraying Jesus in more films than any actor in history. It is a distinction he holds as a great honor.

Most recently Marchiano produced and directed the pro-life feature, Alison’s Choice. He also wrote the screenplay. The story of a pregnant girl who has an extraordinary encounter with God, Live Action News calls Alison’s Choice “the most overtly pro-life film that has been created,” even as the International Christian Film Festival awarded it with four nominations including Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Most Inspirational Film of the Year. Continuing as producer/director, Marchiano is currently in pre-production on a film adaptation of The Gospel According to John, slated to begin filming in Israel in 2018.

Off the set, Marchiano is the founder and president of Marchiano Ministries, a non-profit organization largely involved in South Africa where Bruce has planted/built churches, conducted countless outreaches, and currently provides daily meals to approximately 300 destitute and AIDS-affected children. As an author, Marchiano has penned several books on the person of Jesus. Among them are Jesus Yesterday Today & Forever, Jesus Wept and the bestselling In the Footsteps of Jesus, all of which have been honored by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association as Gold Medallion Finalists. Other titles include Jesus the Man Who Loved Women and The Character of a Man. By way of education, Bruce holds a B.A. (Economics) from CSU Fullerton, and Doctorate (Law) from Western State University.

To quote Bruce, “I could never have imagined what the Lord planned to do with the movie dreams of a chubby 13-year old growing up in the orange groves of southern California. I can only fall on my face and thank Him day after amazing day.”
