I always enjoy the lights and trees during the Christmas season. I enjoy thinking of Jesus and his coming to earth, and hearing the Christmas songs with this theme. During this season of giving, I am reminded of what we have been given and that we are to share it with others.
In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
When I look at my schedule, all the projects I need to get done, and the variety of distractions that clamor for my attention, it almost feels like a basket being placed over that light! However, we have the opportunity every day to be a light to others around us, to share the warmth and happiness that it brings. A lot of this comes from the peace we have from knowing Him, and His effect on our lives. From how we treat others and what we prioritize. Spending time with people and not being too distracted by things, schedules, and all the other attention grabbers. And we keep the light burning bright with a regular time spent with God and getting to know Him.
These verses are our theme verses for the Guild and Festival next March, and we will explore them as it pertains to the film industry and our involvement, but for now, I encourage you to enjoy your friends and family, spend time together, and don’t forget what it is all about.
