At our inaugural festival in 2014 there were 19 composers from around the country and one international composer who submitted original music scores to the 7 minute short film “Work Before Play”. Six scores were chosen as finalists and screened at the event. The composer of the winning score was awarded and honored at the Christian Worldview Film Festival’s awards ceremony. You can watch the film and hear their original scores by clicking here.
We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity again for the upcoming 2016 Film Festival! This year composers will be scoring a short film made by film acting students at the 2015 Masterworks Festival entitled: “Changing Majors”.
How Do I Enter the Competition?
- Step 1: Register for the competition here ($35 entry fee.) We will send you links to download the short film and spotting notes.
- Step 2: Compose and record your epic score!
- Step 3: Send us a copy of your finished score by January 11, 2016 via download link. May the best composer win!
Finished music will need to be submitted as a single high-resolution audio file (WAV or AIFF, 24-bit, 48 kHz).
Each score must be original and cannot contain any copyrighted material. In other words, it needs to be your own work specifically composed for the purpose of this competition and cannot contain copyrighted samples or content from other original works.
By participating in this competition you must also agree to not post the short film anywhere on the Web. The short film you will be working with is copyrighted and being made available to you by permission for the express purpose of this competition. The film is about 8 minutes long and you will be given some minimal spotting notes from the director. Those who do not follow these instructions will be disqualified from the competition.
Deciding to participate in the competition, you agree to issue a perpetual license (master license) for the score to be used in the film, and for promotional purposes in connection with the film or the competition. Apart from the above, you will retain full copyright of the music both as writer and publisher.
The winning music score will be featured at the 2016 Christian Worldview Film Festival being held at the Norris Conference Center in San Antonio, Texas from March 14-19, 2016. The composer of the winning score will be recognized at the Festival’s awards ceremony on the evening of Saturday, March 19, 2016.
Your final music score must be submitted via download link by January 11, 2016.
